Be SOMEONE Day

National Be SOMEONE Day was founded by Project Harmony as a way to help end child abuse and bring awareness to our communities.

According to National Children’s Alliance an estimated 1,670 children in the United States died of child abuse in 2015. In that same year Child Advocacy Centers around the country served more than 311,000 child victims of abuse.

Whether a child is a victim of child abuse or the victim of human trafficking, they need our help. We need to know what the signs of child abuse are, how to report it if a child discloses to us that they are being abused, or if we suspect they are.

Children are innocent and unfortunately are the most vulnerable victims. It’s easy for an abuser to influence and control a child.

We have the ability to be a positive influence in a child’s life. It doesn’t take much to acknowledge a child, listen to what they have to say, and show them that we care. To a child, those little gestures mean a lot.

Due to abuse I experienced, I will never be able to have children of my own, but children have always had a special place in my heart. I will always have a love for the children God brings into my life and I’m thankful for every opportunity I have to be the person I needed when I was younger.

This is a special day to remind us that we can be SOMEONE in the life of child. Today and EVERYDAY we have the opportunity speak up and be a voice for the voiceless.
